The AA in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in HEALTH AND WELLNESS is intended for students who are exploring majors or professions that require a broad understanding of health, fitness, nutrition, and wellness. Courses in this degree will emphasize one or more of the following: (a) methodologies characteristic of the movement, health, and nutritional sciences; (b) improvement of lives through preventive actions; (c) advocacy for healthful living; (d) improvement of fitness, nutrition, mental health, or stress-reduction actions through practical application; (e) investigations of impacts on the environment/climate on health; (f) examination of disparities and social justice in health, nutrition, and/or wellness; (g) broad issue discussion of the effects the health and well-being of individuals, families and populations, leading to increased life expectancies, improved quality of life, and the reduction of diseases.
The Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts Degree is designed for students who wish to obtain a broad knowledge of liberal arts and sciences plus additional coursework in an “Area of Emphasis.” Complete a minimum of 18 credits from the Area of Emphasis coursework listed below. For depth, complete at least two courses from one single discipline. For breadth, complete courses from at least three different disciplines. Courses taken for breadth or depth must carry at least 3 semester credits. Complete one of the following General Education patterns: Cuesta College AA/AS GE or Cal-GETC.
