AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN - Certificate of Achievement

Students enrolled in these courses have the opportunity to expand their knowledge relative to
automotive technology and develop entry level skills required for employment in the automotive service industry. Successful completion of course requirements prepares students for the examinations required for voluntary certification as a professional technician offered by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). The course offerings address the areas of concentration needed by a technician to become certified as a “Master Automobile Technician”, and “Advanced Level Specialist”.

Program Outcomes
Demonstrate the necessary skill proficiency and the technical knowledge for success in the Automotive industry as evidenced by the continuation of NATEF Certification and completion of appropriate NATEF tasks for courses finished.
Students will successfully complete 95% of the P-1 (Performance Item 1) tasks, 80% of the P-2 tasks, and 50% of the P-3 tasks as outlined in the NATEF (National Automotive Technician Education Standards) task list for each area. Students will maintain persistence in the program as evidence by 30% of students who have completed 3 or more ATCH Courses earning and acquiring a Program Certificate or better.
A data analysis will be made annually to determine if persisting students are acquiring a Program Certificate or Degree.
Students who complete the ATCH program (completers) will demonstrate academic proficiency by passing a minimum of 2 National ASE examinations (65% of program completers)
An analysis will be made annually to determine if students who earn a Degree in the Automotive Technology areas (Automotive Technician or Advanced Engine Performance Specialist) have passed their ASE exams.
Students that are considered a “persisting student” in the ATCH program will demonstrate professionalism and industry specific skills through the completion or the Student Exit Profile form to be completed by ATCH faculty.
Automotive Technology Faculty will evaluate the “soft skills” of persisting students via an annual student evaluation form (student exit profile) as approved by the Automotive Advisory Committee.
